FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Giclée Canvas?

A giclée canvas (zhee-CLAY) is an individually produced, high-resolution, high- fidelity reproduction done on a special large format printer. Giclée, a French term meaning "spraying of ink" is produced from digital scans of the original artwork. A fine stream of ink, more than four million droplets per second, is sprayed onto a specially treated canvas. Each giclée is approved by Daniel creating a canvas that truly represents the original. Each giclée is hand-signed by Daniel and includes a "Certificate of Authenticity." The giclée reproductions are limited editions of small quantity to ensure their exclusivity. Most of our giclée reproductions come stretched and are ready to frame. Oversized canvases are shipped rolled with stretcher bars provided.

Caring For Your Giclée Reproduction

Your fine art giclée reproduction is beautiful and delicate and should be handled with the same extreme care that you would give an original painting.

The giclée has been produced using superior printing technologies and premium quality materials. Treat this investment as you would any piece of fine art. To ensure that your giclée maintains its presentation quality for years of enjoyment, please adhere to the following recommendations when handling and displaying:

• When transporting or storing, keep flat and protected to avoid damage.
• Canvas giclée may be gently dusted using a soft, clean dry cloth.
• Do not apply any additional coatings

Reproductions on canvas require special attention. Because canvas weave is extremely hydrophilic (readily accepts and gives off moisture to the surrounding atmosphere), room climate should be controlled to avoid excessive stretching or shrinkage. A consistent environment with temperatures within the 60 to 85 degrees F range and relative humidity of 30 – 55% is recommended.

• Use a professional framer who has experience stretching and framing giclée canvases.
• Do not spray the back of the canvas with water or any other liquids. (Rapid shrinkage as it dries will promote cracking of the surface.)
• Avoid rapid fluctuations of environment and exposure to direct sunlight.

What is an offset lithograph?

This process affordably allows more people to own and enjoy a work of art than the original painting would. Offset lithography is a photographic printing technique that uses inks, carried by rubber rollers called printing blankets, to transfer images from metal plates to paper. Limited edition offset lithographs are printed on high-quality, acid-free paper and printed with the highest quality fade-resistant inks. Each print is hand-signed by Daniel, sequentially numbered and accompanied by a "Certificate of Authenticity."

What does limited edition mean?

Limited edition means that a definitive number of prints are produced. The quantity is decided by the artist and the publisher. The number establishes the edition size and the artist signs and numbers each print. Example: 50/100. 50 is the individual print number and 100 is how many are in the edition.

What does S/N mean?

SN means signed and number.

What does AP or Artist Proof mean?

The Artist's Proof edition is usually, but not always, 10% of the limited edition size. For example, if the limited edition size of a print is 100 the artist's proof edition would be 10. Artist's proofs have a perceived higher value in the market place due to its limited supply and availability. Artist's proofs edition is signified with "Artist Proof" or "AP" in front of the number (AP 1/10).
